About This Spot

Stepping into Metropolis Coffee Company feels like uncovering a quiet refuge tucked quietly within the rhythm of Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood. The moment you cross the threshold, the hum of the city softens, replaced by a gentle interplay of warm woods, exposed brick, and splashes of vibrant art that invites both calm and curiosity. It’s a spot where the pace eases naturally, encouraging you to settle in—whether you're seeking a thoughtful moment over an espresso or a comfortable nook to lose yourself in a book or work.

The atmosphere here moves with a relaxed confidence. You’ll find sturdy, well-worn tables that invite conversation or quiet focus, softened by the glow of carefully placed lights and touches of green from potted plants. It’s a space that feels unhurried yet alive, making it a perfect balance for those who appreciate an authentic neighborhood café experience with a little something extra—a handcrafted coffee culture that honors its craft without fanfare.

Behind the counter, the baristas carry a reassuring warmth, crafting each drink with a practiced ease that speaks to genuine care. Their coffee is balanced and approachable, smooth enough to invite lingering but with a quiet complexity that rewards those paying close attention—from the velvet richness of an espresso latte to more seasonal or curious offerings like a delicate matcha latte or their signature cold brews. Complementing these drinks are thoughtfully prepared pastries and hand pies, each bite reflecting the same careful attention and inviting you to slow down and savor.

Whether you’re drawn by the welcoming hum of conversation, the soft backdrop of jazz-inflected tunes, or simply the ritual of an expertly pulled shot paired with a flaky croissant, Metropolis Coffee Company feels like more than just a coffee stop. It’s a place where the city’s edges soften, human moments unfold, and coffee becomes a quietly joyful discovery in your day.

Coffee Coffee Coffee. One of the earliest pioneers of small batch craft brew in Chicagoland. Currently running a Free the Frogs campaign. Not sure if thats code for something meaningful or just plain fun. Just south of Loyola University the shop’s colors are red and turquoise. They can their own and they have an awesome multi bike rack. Gaze at the lake, celebrate madness.

Cozy coffee cafe with a solid selection of pastries, hand pies, and their own in house roasts. Plenty of seating and lots of nice art of the wall that is up for consignment sale. Nice spot all around for a quiet read or working remotely.

Walking into Metropolis Coffee Company feels like finding a quiet corner in a city that never stops. The space balances raw industrial charm with exposed brick and hefty wood tables, softened by warm light and touches of greenery. It is the kind of place where you want to linger, coffee in hand, even if you only came in for a quick pick me up. Their espresso is confident without being sharp, smooth and slightly chocolatey. It is rich enough to satisfy yet light enough to sip slowly. Paired with a house made granola bar that is nutty, sweet, and just chewy enough, it turns into a little ritual moment. The staff feels like familiar faces, welcoming, discreet, and considerate of whatever pace you came in at.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – My Favorite Coffee Spot in Edgewater This coffee shop is hands down my favorite in Edgewater. The coffee is incredible —smooth, strong, and clearly made by people who don’t mess around with their espresso game. It’s the kind of coffee that makes you reconsider your loyalty to every other cup you’ve had before. The service is lovely —nothing over-the-top, just genuinely nice people. The owners usually say a quick hello and let you do your thing, which honestly fits the whole cool, low-key vibe perfectly. Dog-friendly? Absolutely. Which means I’m not just getting caffeine—I’m also getting emotional support in the form of passing corgis. The place has that effortlessly edgy aesthetic —a little artsy, a little grungy, and full of people who either are working on their thesis or look like they should be. It does get packed when students flood in , but I still love to study or work there. The energy is buzzy, not chaotic. Pastries? Good. Really good. Definitely worth grabbing something sweet with your drink. Bottom line: This spot is a gem in Edgewater. Amazing coffee, great vibe, dog-friendly, and perfect for working or pretending to work. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
